Description
The size of the bird is little larger than myna. Grass green back with yellow rump. Greenish brown tail with white patches. Crown and crest is crimson in male and black in female.

Distribution
It is resident of Indian Union and Bangladesh.

Food
Ants, termite, beetle larvae, flower nectar is its main food.

Habits
It can be spotted in moist-deciduous and semi evergreen forests. Can be spotted near human habitations also. It is normally silent and sometimes generates typical woodpecker drumming sound.

Nesting
January to June is its nesting season. It creates hole in tree and lays 3 to 5 eggs. The color of the eggs are pure white.

বিবরণ
আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে সামান্য বড়। দেহের উপরের রঙ ঘাসের মতো সবুজ। লেজের অগ্রভাগ হলুদ। সবুজ বাদামী লেজ ও সাদা সাদা দাগ থাকে। পুরুষ পাখির মাথা ও ঝুঁটির রঙ তাম্রবর্ণের। স্ত্রী পাখির ক্ষেত্রে মাথা ও ঝুঁটি কালো।

বিস্তার
পুরো ভারতবর্ষ ও বাংলাদেশে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।

খাদ্য
পিঁপড়ে, উইপোকা, গুবরে পোকার লার্ভা ও ফুলের মধু এর প্রধান খাদ্য।

স্বভাব
আর্দ্র-পর্ণমোচী ও আংশিক চিরহরিৎ অরণ্যের বাসিন্দা। মানুষের বসতির কাছাকাছিও দেখা যায়। সাধারণত চুপচাপ থাকে মাঝে মাঝে অন্যান্য কাঠঠোকরার মতো আওয়াজ করে।

বাসস্থান
জানুয়ারী থেকে জুন মাসের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। গাছের গুঁড়িতে গর্ত তৈরী করে তাতে ৩ থেকে ৫ টা সাদা রঙের ডিম দেয়।

Story
There is a small betel nut forest near my house. I visit the area frequently to click photos of birds. I cannot remember the season of the year when I had clicked the above photo. I can remember it was noon and I was there with my camera. I saw this bird which was searching foods from the ground. As the color of the bird is green it was a near perfect camouflage with green grass but I identified it from the red color on its head. I clicked few photos with the maximum zoom capability of my camera. It fled quickly by noticing me when I tried to get near to click some clear photos.

Description
It is a medium sized pied woodpecker. Its upper part is black and heavily barred white. Underparts are lightly streaked dirty buff. Undertail is red. Black line is there in white cheek. Crown is red in male with orange forehead and black in female.

Distribution
It is resident of north eastern hills in India, Bangladesh and South East Asia.

Food
It takes ants, insects, larvae, berries and fruits as food.

Habits
It is resident of forest or forest edges. It can be spotted singly or in pairs well-wooded areas near human habitations. Most of the times it can be spotted nibbling on tree trunks using its strong beak and using its tail as prop. It utters a rapid “pik-pipipipipi” call.

Nesting
January to May is its nesting season. It creates its nest in self made tree hole.

বিবরণ
মাঝারি আকারের দাগী কাঠঠোকরা। দেহের উপরিভাগের রঙ কালো ও তাতে সাদা রঙের দাগ থাকে। দেহের নীচের দিকের অংশ হালকা দাগযুক্ত হলদেটে হয়। লেজের নীচের দিকের রঙ লাল। গালে কালো রঙের দাগ দেখা যায়। পুরুষ পাখির ক্ষেত্রে মাথার উপরিভাগের রঙ লাল ও সামনের দিকে কমলা হয়, স্ত্রী পাখির ক্ষেত্রে মাথার উপরিভাগের রঙ কালো।

বিস্তার
ভারতবর্ষে উত্তরপূর্বের পাহাড়ী অঞ্চলে, বাংলাদেশ ও দক্ষিন-পূর্ব এশিয়ার বাসিন্দা।

খাদ্য
পিঁপড়ে, কীটপতঙ্গ, লার্ভা, ফল খাদ্য হিসেবে গ্রহণ করে।

স্বভাব
অরণ্য বা অরণ্যের আশেপাশে বসবাস করে। একা বা একজোড়া পাখিকে মানুষের বসতির আশেপাশে গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে দেখা যায়। বেশীরভাগ সময়ই লেজের সাহায্যে গাছের গুঁড়িকে শক্ত করে ধরে চঞ্চু দিয়ে গাছের ছাল ঠোকরাতে দেখা যায়। একটা চঞ্চল "পিক-পিপিপিপিপি" স্বরে ডাকে।

বাসস্থান
জানুয়ারী থেকে মে মাসের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। গাছের গুঁড়িতে গর্ত বানিয়ে সেখানে বাসা বানায়।

Story
I cannot remember when I have seen this bird for the first time as it is a regular visitor in my neighborhood. It indicates its presence by its nibble sound on rigid tree trunk and allows me to find it easily. Unlike finding this bird, capturing its photo is little difficult because it is very restless while it nibbles on tree trunk and jumps from one to another tree. The two photos given above are captured near my residence. The first photo is captured beside my home and the second photo is captured in a small betel-nut forest near my home. I cannot remember much about the days.
