Scientific Name Dendrocitta vagabunda Bengali Name Harichacha | হাঁড়িচাচা Description Larger than myna in size and has a long tail. A chestnut-brown bird with long tail. Upper part of the body is rufous and lower part of the body is paler with dark grey head and black and white wings. Black-tipped grey tail and greyish white wing patches are conspicuous during flight. Sexes alike. Distribution It is resident of Indian, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar but not Sri Lanka. Food As an omnivorous bird it takes fruits, insects, lizards, frogs, centipedes. Sometimes eats the eggs of other birds, rodents. Habits It is resident of well-wooded area and scrub jungle. Mainly arboreal but sometimes come down to ground for food. Can be spotted in gardens and compounds of residential area. Travels in a pair or with other family members. Sometimes hunts with mixed hunting groups. It has a large variety of calls. Some calls are harsh and loud and some calls are pleasing and melodious. Most common call is like “bob-o-link” or “ko-ki-la”. Nesting February to July is its nesting season. The nest is like nest of crows. The nest is created with twigs, rootlets high in the tree. Lays 4 to 5 eggs variable size and color. Most common is pale salmon-white streaked with reddish brown. বিবরণ ময়নার চেয়ে আকারে বড় ও লম্বা লেজওয়ালা বাদামী রঙের পাখি। দেহের উপরিভাগ লালচে ও নীচের দিক হালকা লালচে হয়। মাথার রঙ গাঢ় ধূসর ও ডানায় রঙ সাদা কালো। কালো দাগওয়ালা ধূসর লেজ ও ডানার ধূসর সাদা দাগ ওড়ার সময় দেখা যায়। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ একই রকমের দেখতে হয়। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষ, বাংলাদেশ, পাকিস্তান, মায়ানমারের বাসিন্দা হলেও শ্রীলঙ্কার দেখা যায়না। খাদ্য সর্বভুক পাখি হিসাবে ফল, কীটপতঙ্গ, টিকটিকি, ব্যাঙ, কেন্নো খাদ্য হিসাবে গ্রহণ করে। অনেকসময় অন্যান্য পাখিদের ডিম ও ইঁদুর জাতীয় প্রাণীদের ধরে খায়। স্বভাব গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চল ও হালকা ঝোপঝাড়ওয়ালা জঙ্গলে থাকতে পছন্দ করে। সাধারণত বৃক্ষাচারী কিন্তু মাঝে মাঝে খাবারের জন্য মাটিতেও নামে। বসতি এলাকার বাগানে বা চত্বরে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। একজোড়া বা পরিবার নিয়ে চলাফেরা করে। অনেকসময় অন্যান্য পাখিদের সঙ্গে দলবেঁধে শিকার করে। অনেকধরণের ডাক ডাকতে পারে। অনেক ডাক শুনতে কর্কশ আবার অনেক ডাক শুনতে মধুর। পরিচিত ডাক শুনতে অনেকটা "বব-ও-লিঙ্ক" বা "কো-কি-লা" এর মতো। বাসস্থান ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে জুলাই হল বাসা বানাবার সময়। অনেকটা কাকের বাসার মতো বাসা বানায়। কাঠি, শিকড় দিয়ে গাছের অনেকটা উপরে বাসা তৈরী করে। ৪ থেকে ৫ টা বিভিন্ন আকৃতির ও রঙের ডিম দেয়। প্রধাণত হালকা সবুজাভ-সাদা রঙের ডিম দেয় ও তাতে লালচে বাদামী দাগ থাকে। |
