Scientific Name Milvus migrans Bengali Name Vubon Chil, Chil | ভুবন চিল, চিল Description Dark brown kite with paler head. Distinguishable from other similar birds by its forked tail, visible during flight. Sexes alike. Distribution It is resident of Indian Union upto 2500 meters in Himalayas, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Food Mice, lizards, young bird, winged termites, earthworms are its main food. Habits It is the most common Kite in India. Can be spotted near human habitations. Spreading its wing it moves in circular or elliptical path high in the sky and looks for food in ground of in air. It uses its fork style tail to change its direction of flight. A shrill call “ewe-wir-wir-wir” is uttered from a perch or during flight. Nesting It creates its nest on rooftop or on in large tree with twigs, tow, rags and rubbish of every description. It lays 2 to 4 dirty pinkish white eggs blotched with brown. Both sexes share domestic duties. বিবরণ গাঢ বাদামী রঙের চিল। মাছের মতো লেজ আছে যা অন্যান্য একইরকমের পাখিদের সঙ্গে আলাদা করে চিনতে সাহায্য করে। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ একই রকমের দেখতে হয়। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষে হিমালয়ের ২৫০০ মিটার পর্যন্ত, বাংলাদেশ, নেপাল, পাকিস্তান, শ্রীলঙ্কা ও মায়ানমারে দেখা যায়। খাদ্য ছোট ইঁদুর, টিকটিকি, ছোট পাখি, উইপোকা, পোকামাকড় এর প্রধান খাদ্য। স্বভাব ভারতবর্ষের সবচেয়ে পরিচিত চিল। মানুষের বসতির আশেপাশেই দেখা যায়। ডানার উপর ভর করে উঁচুতে চক্রাকারে ঘোরে ও খাবারের খোঁজে নীচের দিকে নজর রাখে। মাছের মতো লেজ দিয়ে ওড়ার সময় দিক পরিবর্তন করে। উঁচুতে বসে কিংবা ওড়ার সময় তীক্ষন স্বরে "এই-উইর-উইর-উইর" শব্দে ডাকে। বাসস্থান গাছের ডাল, দড়ি, ছেঁড়া কাপড়, বিভিন্ন ধরণের নোংরা দিয়ে উঁচু গাছে বা ছাদে বাসা বানায়। ২ থেকে ৪ টা বাদামী ছিটযুক্ত গোলাপী সাদা ডিম দেয়। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ উভয়েই বাসা বানাবার ও বাচ্চা লালন পালনের দায়িত্ব পালন করে। |
