Scientific Name Psittacula alexandri Bengali Name Lal-buk Tia, Tota | লাল-বুক টিয়া, তোতা Description The size of this bird is like Pigeon. It is a grassy green parakeet with pinky-red breast, red beak in case of male and black in case of female, black stripes from lower beak to sides of head. It has yellow patches on green wings. Tail is long and bluish green with yellow patches. Distribution It is resident of moist-deciduous forest at the foothills of Himalayas. It is distributed from kumaon to Arunachal Pradesh covering the NE hill states, Bangladesh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Food Both wild and cultivated fruit is its favourite food. It also takes nectar, grains as its food. Habits It can be spotted in groups, travelling from one tree to another to eat fruits, nectar and on in paddy fields. It utters a sharp nasal scream “quawnk, quawnk”. It wastes lots of grain in paddy fields and fruits in fruit gardens. Nesting January to April is its nesting season. It creates its nest in natural tree holes in well wooded country. It lays 3 to 4 white eggs. Both sexes share the parental responsibilities. বিবরণ আকারে পায়রার মতো, ঘাস-সবুজ রঙের হয়। বুকের রঙ গোলাপী-লাল, স্ত্রী পাখির চঞ্চুর রঙ কালো ও পুরুষ পাখির চঞ্চুর রঙ লাল, চঞ্চুর নীচ থেকে মাথার দুপাশ পর্যন্ত কালো দাগ থাকে। সবুজ ডানায় ও লম্বা নীলাভ-সবুজ লেজে হলদে ছোপ থাকে। বিস্তার হিমালয়ের পাদদেশে আর্দ্র-পর্ণমোচী অরণ্যের বাসিন্দা। কুমায়ন থেকে অরুনাচল প্রদেশ পর্যন্ত উত্তরপূর্বের সমস্ত রাজ্যে, বাংলাদেশ ও আন্দামান ও নিকোবর দ্বীপপুঞ্জে দেখা যায়। খাদ্য বাগান ও অরণ্যের ফল এদের প্রিয় খাদ্য। এছাড়াও ফুলের মধু, শস্যদানা খাদ্য হিসেবে গ্রহণ করে। স্বভাব দলবেঁধে বাগানে বা শস্যক্ষেতে ঘোরাফেরা করে। "কোয়াক, কোয়াক" শব্দে উচ্চস্বরে ডাকে। খাবার সময় প্রচুর শস্য ও ফল নষ্ট করে। বাসস্থান জানুয়ারি থেকে এপ্রিল মাসের মধ্যে গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে গাছের গর্তে বাসা বানায়। ৩ থেকে ৪ টা সাদা ডিম দেয়। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ উভয়ে মিলেই সন্তান লালনপালনের দ্বায়িত্ব পালন করে। |
