Scientific Name Pycnonotus cafer Bengali Name Bulbuli, Bangla Bulbuli, Bulbul | বুলবুলি, বাংলা বুলবুলি, বুলবুল Description This is a dark brown bulbul with partially crested black head, scale like markings on breast and back and a conspicuous red patch below the root of its tail. Due to its red patch under the root of tail, it is called Red-vented Bulbul. Sexes alike. Distribution It is resident of Indian Union, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mayanmar. Absent above 1500 meters in Himalayas. Different races have minor differences in color and size. Food It takes fruits, peas and such like vegetables, flower nectar as food. Habits It is the most familiar bulbul. It can be spotted in well wooded areas, gardens, little scrub jungle etc. Usually travels with parties or in pair. It utters different noisy sounds like “we we wool, peep peep”. Nesting February to May is its nesting season. It creates its nest in bush or tree with rootlets and plastered with cobwebs. It lays 2 to 3 pinkish white eggs. Both sexes share the parental responsibilities. বিবরণ গাঢ় বাদামী রঙের বুলবুলি, মাথায় ছোট ঝুঁটি থাকে। বুকে ও পিঠে আঁশের মতো দাগ দেখা যায়। লেজের নীচের দিকের অংশ লাল রঙের হয় যার জন্য এর ইংরেজী নাম Red-vented Bulbul। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ একইরকম দেখতে হয়। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষ, বাংলাদেশ, শ্রীলঙ্কা ও মায়ানমারের বাসিন্দা। হিমালয়ে ১৫০০ মিটারের উপরে অনুপস্থিত। উপপ্রজাতি গুলোর আকারে ও রঙে সামান্য পার্থক্য লক্ষ্য করা যায়। খাদ্য ফল, মটরজাতীয় সবজি ও ফুলের মধু খাদ্য হিসেবে গ্রহণ করে। স্বভাব সবচেয়ে পরিচিত বুলবুলি। একা বা একদল ঘুর বেড়ায়। গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে, বাগানে কিংবা ছোট ঝোপঝাড়ে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। "উই উই উল" বা "পিপ পিপ" জাতীয় শব্দ করে। বাসস্থান ফেব্রুয়ারী থেকে মে পর্যন্ত বাসা বানায়। গাছের ডালে কিংবা ঝোপে সরু শিকড় ও মাকড়শার জাল দিয়ে বাসা বানায়। ২ থেকে ৩ টা গোলাপী সাদা রঙের ডিম দেয়। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ উভয়েই সন্তান লালনপালনের দ্বায়িত্ব পালন করে। |
