Scientific Name Clamator jacobinus Bengali Name Shah Bulbul, Kala Bulbul, Chatak | শাহ বুলবুল, কালা বুলবুল, চাতক Description The size of the bird is little larger than Myna. It is a beautiful black and white crested cuckoo. Upper parts are black and under parts are white. White tips on tail and roundish patch of white on wings can be seen during its flight. Distribution It is resident of Indian Union and Bangladesh. Absent above 2500 meters of elevation in Himalayas. Food Grasshoppers, Caterpillars and berries are its main food. Habits It is a locally migratory bird and the migration is controlled by monsoon. Can be spotted in open well-wooded country and near human habitations. Mainly arboreal but occasionally eats food from ground. During its flight from one tree to another tree it calls with plaintive “piu-piu-pee-pee-piu”. In indian culture it is known as Chatak. According to Indian Mythology it moves its head towards sky and call for the rains when it is thirst. Nesting June to August. It does not build its own nest and lays eggs in the nest of babblers or bulbul. Eggs are blue in color similar to those of the fosterers. বিবরণ আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে একটু বড়। খুব সুন্দর ঝুঁটিওয়ালা সাদাকালো পাপিয়া। দেহের উপরের অংশের রঙ কালো ও নীচের অংশের রঙ সাদা। লেজের ডগার সাদা অংশ ও ডানায় বাঁকানো সাদা দাগ ওড়ার সময় প্রতীয়মান হয়। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষ ও বাংলাদেশের বাসিন্দা। হিমালয়ে ২৫০০ মিটারের উপরে অনুপস্থিত। খাদ্য ফড়িং, শুঁয়োপোকা ও জামজাতীয় ফল এর প্রধান খাদ্য। স্বভাব স্থানীয় পরিয়ায়ী পাখি। প্রধানত বর্ষাকাল দ্বারা এর আসা-যাওয়া নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয়। খোলা গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে দেখা যায়। মানুষের বসতির কাছে থাকতেই পছন্দ করে। প্রধানত বৃক্ষাচারী পাখি তবে মাঝে মাঝে মাটিতে খাবারের সন্ধানে নামে। এক গাছ থেকে অন্য গাছে উড়ে যাবার সময় “পিউ-পিউ-পি-পি-পিউ” করে আওয়াজ করে। ভারতে চাতক পাখি নামে পরিচিত। জনশ্রুতি আছে যে জল তেষ্টায় আকাশের দিকে মাথা তুলে বৃষ্টির জন্য ডাকে। বাসস্থান জুলাই থেকে অগাষ্ট এর প্রজনন ঋতু। নিজে বাসা বানাতে পারেনা দেখে বুলবুলি বা ছাতারের বাসাতে ডিম দেয়। ডিমের রঙ নীল যা প্রতিপালক পাখিদের ডিমের মতোই দেখতে। Story |
