Scientific Name Lanius cristatus Bengali Name Karkata, Kajol Pakhi, Badami Kosai Pakhi, Khoyeri Latora | করকটা, কাজল পাখি, বাদামী কসাই পাখি, খয়েরী লটোরা Description The size is similar to bulbul. The upper parts are reddish brown except supercilium. A black line is present through eye to ear coverts. This black line is not conspicuous in female. A white brow is available over it. Tail is rufous-brown. Distribution It is winter visitor to eastern and southern regions of India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Food It takes insects, small birds and mammals, lizards as food. Habits It is a winter visitor and it can be spotted near forest edges, scrub jungle and open woodland. It utters a harsh “chr-r-r” call. Nesting Its nesting season is late May or June, it creates its nest in bush or tree and lays two to six eggs. বিবরণ আকারে অনেকটা বুলবুলির মতো। দেহের উপরিভাগের রঙ লালচে বাদামী। চোখের উপর দিয়ে একটা কালো দাগ কান পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত থাকে। স্ত্রী পাখির ক্ষেত্রে কালো দাগ খুব একটা স্পষ্ট হয়না। কালো দাগের উপর সাদা রঙের একটা অংশ থাকে। লেজের রঙ লালচে বাদামী হয়। বিস্তার পূর্ব, দক্ষিন ভারত, বাংলাদেশ ও শ্রীলঙ্কার শীতকালীন অতিথি। খাদ্য কীটপতঙ্গ, ছোট পাখি ও স্তন্যপায়ী, টিকটিকি ও গিরগিটি খাদ্য হিসাবে গ্রহণ করে। স্বভাব শীতকালীন অতিথি হিসাবে অরণ্যের আশেপাশে, ঝোপঝাড়যুক্ত অঞ্চলে ও খোলা গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে দেখা যায়। "চির-র-র" - শব্দে কর্কশ ভাবে ডাকে। বাসস্থান মে অথবা জুনে ঝোপেঝাড়ে অথবা গাছে বাসা বানায় ও দুই থেকে ছয়টা ডিম দেয়। Story |
