Scientific Name Irena puella Bengali Name Nilpari, Asiyo Nilpari | নীলপরী, এশীয় নীলপরী Description The size of the bird is little larger than myna. Arboreal bird. Male can be spotted without mistake from its ultramarine blue above and deep velvet black below. Additional to these the male has blue rear neck, mantle, wing and tail coverts. The female is different from male by its greenish-blue color all over the body and black lores, wings. Distribution It is resident of himalayan foothills in North-East India, humid heavy-rainfall areas in South-West India, Bangladesh, Andaman and Nicobar islands. Absent above 1800 meters of elevation. Food Its diet chart contains mainly fruits, berries, flower nectar, insects etc. Habits Resident of evergreen forests and moist deciduous forest. Can be spotted on the top of tall trees hopping from one branch to another for food. Moves with small groups of 6 to 8 birds. Sometimes can be spotted with bird groups like green pigeons, hornbills or other frugivorous birds. It utters a percussive liquid whistle “whit-tu” or “peepit” repetitively with a sharp jerking of the tail. Nesting The nesting season is not well defined but mainly it is from February to April. Creates its cup like nest in tree fork with straight wigs, green moss, leaf-ribs and rootlets. Lays 2 eggs, olive-grey with brown irregular blotches. বিবরণ আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে সামান্য বড়। বৃক্ষাচারী পাখি। পুরুষ পাখির দেহের উপরিভাগের উজ্জ্বল নীলরঙ ও দেহের নিম্নভাগের মোলায়েম কালো রঙ দেখে সহজেই সনাক্ত করা যায়। এছাড়া পুরুষ পাখির ঘাড়ের পেছনদিকে, চঞ্চু, ডানা ও লেজের আচ্ছাদনের রঙ কালো। স্ত্রী পাখিকে তার দেহের সবুজ-নীল রঙ ও কালো ডানা দেখে পুরুষ পাখির থেকে আলাদা করা যায়। বিস্তার উত্তরপূর্ব ভারতে হিমালয়ের পাদদেশে, দক্ষিনপশ্চিম ভারতে আর্দ্র বেশীবৃষ্টিপাতযুক্ত এলাকায়, বাংলাদেশে, আন্দামান ও নিকোবর দ্বীপপুঞ্জে দেখা যায়। ১৮০০ মিটারের বেশি উচ্চতায় দেখা যায়না। খাদ্য ফল, ফুলের মধু ও কীটপতঙ্গ এর প্রধান খাদ্য। স্বভাব চিরহরিৎ ও আর্দ্র-পর্ণমোচী অরণ্যের বাসিন্দা। উঁচু গাছে এক ডাল থেকে অন্য ডালে খাবারের সন্ধানে ঘুরতে দেখা যায়। ৬ থেকে ৮ জনের ছোট ছোট দলে ঘুরতে দেখা যায়। অনেকসময় হরিয়াল, ধনেশ বা ওইধরনের ফলাহারী পাখিদের সঙ্গে ঘুরতে দেখা যায়। দ্রুত লেজ নাড়িয়ে ক্রমাগত “হুইট-টু” বা “পিপিট” এর মতো শিস দেয়। বাসস্থান বাসা বানাবার কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময় না থাকলেও প্রধানত ফেব্রুয়ারি থেকে এপ্রিলের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। গাছের ডালের শাখা প্রশাখার সংযোগস্থলে সরু ডাল, পাতার টুকরো, মূল দিয়ে কাপের মতো বাসা বানায়। দুটো জলপাই-ধূসর রঙের ডিম দেয় ও ডিমের উপর অনিয়মিত বাদামী দাগ দেখা যায়। |
