Scientific Name Acridotheres fuscus Bengali Name Jhunti Shalik | ঝুঁটি শালিখ Description The size of the bird is same as Common Myna. Similar to common myna but more greyish brown overall. It has small upstanding feathers on forehead. Large white wing patches which become visible during flight. It does not have bare skin around its eyes. Distribution It is resident of Indian Union and Bangladesh. Absent above 2500 meters of elevation in Himalayas. Food Omnivorous bird. Takes fruits, flower nectar, seeds, grains and insects as food. Habits It likes to keep distance from human habitations. Lives in well-wooded areas. Can be spotted near grazing cattle during its search for food. Call is similar to Common Myna. It sounds like “Keek-Keek-Kok-Kok”. Nesting February to July is the nesting season. It creates its nest in tree hole with collection of roots, grass, sticks etc. Lays 3 to 4 eggs. The color of the eggs are glossy turquoise blue. বিবরণ আকারে ভাত শালিখের সমান। অনেকটা ভাত শালিখের মতো দেখতে হলেও গায়ের রঙ ধূসর বাদামী। মাথার সামনের দিকে ঝুঁটি থাকে। ডানায় সাদা দাগ আছে যা ওড়ার সময় দেখা যায়। চোখের আশেপাশে খোলা চামড়া নেই। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষ ও বাংলাদেশের বাসিন্দা। হিমালয়ে ২৫০০ মিটারের উপরে দেখা যায়না। খাদ্য সর্বভুক পাখি। ফল, ফুলের মধু, দানাশস্য, কীটপতঙ্গ খাদ্য হিসাবে গ্রহণ করে। স্বভাব মানুষের থেকে দূরে থাকতে পছন্দ করে। গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে বসবাস করে। গবাদিপশুর আশেপাশে দেখা যায় খাবারের খোঁজে। এর ডাক অনেকটা ভাত শালিখের মতো যা শুনতে “কীক-কীক-কক-কক” এর মতো। বাসস্থান ফেব্রুয়ারী থেকে জুলাই মাসের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। গাছের গুঁড়ির গর্তে মূল, ঘাস, কাঠি দিয়ে বাসা বানায়। ৩ থেকে ৪ টি চকচকে নীল রঙের ডিম দেয়। Story |
