Scientific Name Caprimulgus macrurus Bengali Name Ratchora, Lyanja Ratchora | রাতচরা, ল্যাঞ্জা রাতচরা Description The size of the bird is more or less like pigeon. Very similar to Indian Jungle Nightjar. It has as long wings and broad tail. Medium sized brownish buff nightjar with blackish streaks on crown. A white spot on first four primaries and broad white tips on two outer tail feathers are conspicuous during the flight. Distribution Resident of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. Food Night flying insects are its food. Habits It is resident of evergreen and moist deciduous forest. Can be spotted in bamboo gardens and secondary scrub jungles also. It roosts on ground or branches near ground well camouflaged by dry brown leaves. Nocturnal like other nightjars and hunts during night. Its utters a loud metallic sound like “chaunk,chaunk,chaunk” or “tok,tok,tok”. Nesting The breeding season is from March to May. It does not create nest. Lays 2 eggs on bare ground. Eggs are pale pink in color blotched with reddish brown. বিবরণ পায়রার থেকে একটু ছোট বা বড় হয় আকারে। অনেকটা মেটে রাতচরা বা Indian Jungle Nightjar এর মতো দেখতে। বড় ডানা ও চওড়া লেজ থাকে। বাদামী রঙের মাঝারি রাতচরা ও মাথায় কালো দাগ থাকে। ডানার প্রথম চারটি মুখ্য অংশে সাদা দাগ ও লেজের বাইরের দিকের দুটো পালকে সাদা দাগ দেখতে পাওয়া যায় যা ওড়ার সময় স্পষ্ট হয়। বিস্তার ভারতবর্ষ, বাংলাদেশ ও শ্রীলঙ্কার বাসিন্দা। খাদ্য রাতের উড্ডীয়মান কীটপতঙ্গ এর খাদ্য। স্বভাব চিরহরিৎ বা আর্দ্র-পর্ণমোচী অরণ্যের বাসিন্দা। বাঁশবন বা ঝোপঝাড়েও দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। মাটিতে বা মাটির কাছাকাছি গাছের ডালে এমনভাবে বসে থাকে যে বাদামী রঙের শুকনো পাটার জন্য চট করে লক্ষ্য করা যায়না। অন্যান্য রাতচর দের মতো নিশাচর ও রাতে শিকার করে। ডাকার সময় তীব্র ধাতব আওয়াজ "চানক, চানক, চানক" বা "টক, টক, টক" করে ডাকে। বাসস্থান মার্চ থেকে মে মাস এদের প্রজনন ঋতু। বাসা বানায় না। খোলা মাটিতে ২ টো হালকা গোলাপি রঙের লালচে বাদামী ছিটওয়ালা ডিম দেয়। |
