Scientific Name Treron phoenicoptera Bengali Name Hariyal, Holud pa hariyal, Botkol | হরিয়াল, হলুদপা হরিয়াল, বটকল Description Size is same as normal domesticated pigeons. The head, wings and tail are olive green and ashy. Wings have clear bar of yellow. From the back of the head till the beginning of wings color is yellow. The foots are conspicuously yellow. This is why it is called yellow-legged or yellow footed. Sexes alike. Distribution Can be spotted throughout the Indian union and Bangladesh. Food Fruits and berries are its food. Habits Gregarious and arboreal bird. Can be spotted in banyan or peepal trees roadside. It loves to eat the fruits of banyan and peepal trees. They hops from one branch to another to eat the ripe fruits. As their dominant color is olive green they can create a perfect camouflage sitting in the trees. Nesting It creates its nest from March to June. It uses small sticks, dry grasses to build its nest on tree trunk on a medium sized tree. Lays 2 eggs, white color. Special Information Yellow-legged Green Pigeon is state bird of Maharashtra, India. বিবরণ আকার পোষা পায়রাদের মতো। মাথা, ডানা ও লেজের রঙ জলপাই সবুজ ও ছাই রঙের। মাথার শেষদিক থেকে বুকের শুরু পর্যন্ত হলুদ রঙ। পেটের দিক থেকে লেজের শেষ পর্যন্ত ছাইরঙা। ডানায় স্পষ্ট হলুদ দাগ থাকে। পায়ের রঙ হলুদ দেখে এদের হলদেপা হরিয়াল বলে। বটগাছে দেখা যায় দেখে বটকলও বলা হয়।স্ত্রী পুরুষ পাখি একই রকমের দেখতে হয়। বিস্তার পুরো ভারতবর্ষ ও বাংলাদেশে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। খাদ্য ফল ও জাম জাতীয় খাদ্য খেয়ে বেঁচে থাকে। স্বভাব বৃক্ষাচারী ও দলপ্রিয় পাখি। একসাথে দল বেঁধে চলাফেরা করে। রাস্তার ধারের বট বা অশ্বত্থ গাছে দল বেঁধে ফল খেতে আসে। এক ডাল থেকে অন্য ডালে চলাফেরা করে পাকা ফলের খোঁজে। গায়ের রঙ জলপাই সবুজ হওয়ার জন্য সহজে বোঝা যায়না প্রায় গাছের পাতার সঙ্গে মিশে থাকে। বাসস্থান মার্চ থেকে জুন মাসের মধ্যে বাসা তৈরী করে। ছোট কাঠি ও শুকনো ঘাস ডালপালা দিয়ে মাঝারি বা বড় গাছের গুঁড়ির খাঁজে বাসা বানায়। দুটো সাদা চকচকে ডিম দেয়। বিশেষ তথ্য হলদেপা হরিয়াল বা বটকল হল মহারাষ্ট্রের রাজ্য পাখি। Story |
