Bengali Name
Dagi Basantabouri, Gurkhood, Beghbou | দাগী বসন্তবৌরি, গোরখুদ, বেঘবৌ

Description
Little larger than myna in size. Similar to Brown-headed Barbet. Color is grass green, head and belly is pale green with brown patches. Strong beak with light pink color. Orange circle around eyes. Sexes alike.

Distribution
Resident of himalayan foothills in North east region of India and Bangladesh. Can be spotted northern region of west bengal and bangladesh.

Food
Like other barbets main food is different kind of fruits. Occasionally eats insects and small vertebrates like lizard, frog etc.

Habits
As its main food is fruit, it can be spotted in gardens or areas with fruit trees. Lives in deciduous forest and well-wooded localities.

Nesting
Its nesting season is from March to Mid-June. Create hole in tree branch for nesting. Lays 2 to 4 eggs with white color.

বিবরণ
আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে সামান্য বড়। অনেকটা খয়েরি-মাথা বসন্তবৌরির মতো দেখতে। পিঠের দিকে রঙ ঘাসের মতো সবুজ। মাথা ও দেহের নীচের অংশের রঙ হালকা সবুজ ও তাতে বাদামী রঙের দাগ আছে। চঞ্চু বড়, শক্তপোক্ত ও হালকা গোলাপী রঙের। চোখের চারিদিক কমলা রঙের হয়।

বিস্তার
উত্তর-পূর্ব ভারতে ও বাংলাদেশে হিমালয়ের পাদদেশে বাস করে।

খাদ্য
অনান্য বসন্তবৌরির মতো ফলাহারী। তবে অনেকসময় কীটপতঙ্গ বা ছোট মেরুদণ্ডওয়ালা প্রাণী যেমন ব্যাঙ, টিকটিকি খাদ্য হিসাবে গ্রহণ করে।

স্বভাব
ফলাহারী হওয়ার জন্য বাগানে বা ফলের গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে দেখা যায়। পর্ণমোচী অরণ্যে বা গাছপালাযুক্ত জায়গায় বাস করে।

বাসস্থান
মার্চ থেকে জুনের মাঝামাঝি সময় পর্যন্ত বাসা বানায়। গাছের ডালে বা গুঁড়িতে গর্ত করে বাসা তৈরী করে। ২ থেকে ৪ টা সাদা রঙের ডিম দেয়।

Story
When I visit my home, during leisure time I pick up my camera and go amidst of the green nature. One of my favourite place is riverside which is 2-3 kms away from my home. The place is full of fruit-trees, bushes, crop fields. It is a very good place for watching a large variety of birds. I cannot remember the exact time but that day I was going to the riverside by pedaling my bicycle.Suddenly I saw a green bird to fly from a distant tree and sit in a tree beside the road. I thought it should be a blue throated barbet because that is common bird in my hometown. But I found that it was Lineated Barbet. As the light was not good I was able to capture only 4 to 5 photos.That was not the first time I saw this bird.I spotted this bird during my visit to Jayanti also. The second picture is from Jayanti.

Description
The size of the bird is similar myna. A medium sized, heavy billed, grass green barbet with red capped blue head. There is transverse black band above the eyes. The blue of head includes chin and throat and continues till the upper breast where there is red patches on each sides of its body. Sexes alike.

Distribution
It is resident of lower himalayas in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. Absent above 2000 meters of elevation.

Food
It eats fruits, berries, wild figs as foods. Like other barbets hunts flying termites from air.

Habits
As an arboreal bird it likes to stay in well wooded areas, gardens. It can be spotted also in populated cities if there are sufficient trees. Example - Kolkata. Can be spotted singly or with a group in leafy fruiting trees. The call is similar to brown-headed barbet but with higher pitched. During hot summer multiple calls can be heard continuously from high leafy trees. The style of its flight helps to distinguish it from other birds during flight. The flight is noisy and dipping like a sine curve.

Nesting
March to June is its nesting season. It uses hole in dead tree trunk or branch as its nest. Lays 3 to 4 eggs, white in color.

বিবরণ
আকারে ময়নার চেয়ে সামান্য বড় বা ছোট। মাঝারি আকারের, শক্ত চঞ্চুযুক্ত, ঘাস-সবুজ রঙের বসন্তবৌরি। নীল মাথায় লাল রঙের পট্টি থাকে, চোখের উপরে তেরছা কালো রঙের ডোরা থাকে। মাথার নীল রঙ চিবুক ও গলা পার করে বুকের উপরিভাগ পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত, যেখানে দেহের দুপাশে লাল রঙের দাগ থাকে। স্ত্রী ও পুরুষ পাখি দেখতে একইরকম।

বিস্তার
ভারতবর্ষের নিম্ন হিমালয়ের সমতলভূমিতে, পাকিস্তান, বাংলাদেশ ও মায়ানমারের বাসিন্দা। ২০০০ মিটারের উপরে পাওয়া যায়না।

খাদ্য
ফল, জামজাতীয় ও ডুমুর জাতীয় ফল এর প্রধান খাদ্য। অন্যান্য বসন্তবৌরিদের মতো উড়ন্ত উইপোকা শিকার করে।

স্বভাব
বৃক্ষাচারী পাখি হিসাবে গাছপালাযুক্ত অঞ্চলে, বাগানে থাকতে পছন্দ করে। উপযুক্ত পরিমানে গাছপালা থাকলে জনবহুল শহরেও থাকে যেমন কলকাতা। একা বা একদল বসন্তবৌরি কে পত্রাচ্ছাদিত ফলের গাছে দেখা যায়। এদের ডাক অনেকটা বাদামী মাথা বসন্তবৌরির মতো। গরমকালে উঁচু গাছ থেকে একটা বা কয়েকটা বসন্তবৌরির অবিরাম ডাক শুনতে পাওয়া যায়। এর ওড়ার ভঙ্গি দেখে একে অন্যান্য পাখি থেকে থেকে চট করে চেনা যায়। আওয়াজ করে সাইন কার্ভের মতো ওড়ে।

বাসস্থান
মার্চ থেকে জুন হল এর বাসা বানাবার সময়। গাছের গুঁড়ি বা ডালের গর্তে বাসা বানায়। সাদা রঙের ৩ থেকে ৪ টি ডিম দেয়।
