Scientific Name Hypothymis azurea Bengali Name Kaloghar Rajan, Kalo Katkatia, Kaloghar Nil Katkatia, Kalo Matha Katkatia | কালোঘাড় রাজন, কালো কাটকাটিয়া, কালোঘাড় নীল কাটকাটিয়া, কালো মাথা কাটকাটিয়া Description The size of the bird is like sparrow. Male bird has blue head continued to the tail and breast. Black patch is there at the back of the head. The end of tail is black. Prominent black patches are there on the wings. Color of abdomen is white and under coverts of tail is grey. The female bird is browner, grey and white below. No black patches are there. Distribution Can be spotted throughout the Indian union and Bangladesh. Food Flies and midges and insects like cicadas. Habits Can be spotted singly or a pair in wooded area or in bamboo jungle. It perches on branch of trees and hunts flies from air and grounds. It generates a harsh call “sweech-which”. Nesting Nesting season is from April to August. It uses grasses and moss to create the nest like a cup. The outer side of the nest is draped with spider egg cases, lichens etc. Lays 3 to 4 eggs. Eggs are creamy pink color blotched with reddish brown. বিবরণ আকারে অনেকটা চড়ুইয়ের মতো। পুরুষ পাখির মাথা থেকে লেজ পর্যন্ত ও বুক পর্যন্ত রঙ নীল। লেজের শেষ দিকে ও মাথার পেছনের দিকে কিছুটা অংশ কালো। ডানায় কালো কালো দাগ থাকে। পেটের রঙ সাদা। লেজের নীচের অংশ ধূসর। স্ত্রী পাখি বাদামী, ধূসর ও দেহের নীচের অংশ সাদা। কালো রঙের দাগ ডানায় অনুপস্থিত। বিস্তার পুরো ভারতবর্ষ ও বাংলাদেশে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। খাদ্য মাছি ডাঁশ এবং ওই ধরণের প্রাণী এর খাদ্য। স্বভাব গাছপালাযুক্ত জায়গা বা বাঁশবনে একা বা একজোড়া দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। গাছের ডালে বসে থাকে ও উড়ে বা মাটি থেকে শিকার ধরে। “সুইচ-হুইচ” বলে কর্কশ স্বরে ডাকে। বাসস্থান এপ্রিল থেকে অগাষ্টের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। ঘাস, শ্যাওলা, মাকড়সার ডিমের খোল এসব দিয়ে কাপের মতো বাসা বানায়। ৩ থেকে ৪টি গোলাপী রঙের ডিম দেয়। ডিমের গায়ে লাল-বাদামী দাগ থাকে। Story |
