Description
It is a large grey bird, whitish from breast down, with a broad dark eye-streak. The eye-streak is pale in female. It has a stout black bill.
Distribution
It is a resident of the entire Indian Union except east Punjab and Rajasthan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar. It can be spotted upto 1300 meters in the Himalayas.
Food
Large insects, berries, peepul and other wild figs.
Habits
Arboreal bird. Resident of deciduous forest and evergreen jungle. Flies from tree-top to tree-top in pairs or with family. Utters a loud ringing whistle "ti-eee" from time to time.
Nesting
May to October is its nesting season. The nest is like a cup of fine twigs bound together with cobwebs and covered with pieces of bark. It lays 3 pale green eggs with blotches of dark brown and purple.
বিবরণ
আকারে বড় ধূসর রঙের পাখি, বুকের নীচ থেকে লেজ পর্যন্ত রঙ সাদা, চোখের চারপাশে একটা চওড়া কালো রঙের পটি থাকে। স্ত্রী পাখির ক্ষেত্রে চোখের কালো পটি হালকা হয়। মোটা শক্ত চঞ্চু থাকে।
বিস্তার
পূর্ব পাঞ্জাব ও রাজস্থান বাদ দিয়ে পুরো ভারতবর্ষেই দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। এছাড়া বাংলাদেশ, শ্রীলঙ্কা, মায়ানমারেও দেখা যায়। হিমালয়ের ১৩০০ মিটারের উপরে অনুপস্থিত।
খাদ্য
বড় কীটপতঙ্গ, ফল,পিপুল ও বন্য ডুমুর খাদ্য হিসেবে গ্রহণ করে।
স্বভাব
বৃক্ষাচারী পাখি। চিরহরিৎ ও পর্ণমোচী অরণ্যের বাসিন্দা। এক বৃক্ষের ওপর থেকে অন্য বৃক্ষের ওপরে জোড়ায় জোড়ায় বা পরিবারের সঙ্গে লাফিয়ে বেড়ায়। একটা জোরালো "টি-ইইই" শব্দে ডাকে।
বাসস্থান
মে থেকে অক্টোবরের মধ্যে বাসা বানায়। ছোট ডালকে মাকড়সার জাল দিয়ে বেঁধে কাপের মতো দেখতে বাসা বানায়। বাসার ওপরটা গাছের ছাল দিয়ে ঢেকে দেয়। ৩ টি গাঢ় বাদামী ও বাদামী ছিটযুক্ত হালকা সবুজ রঙের ডিম দেয়।
Story
The above photo was taken in a forest near human habitation in Chilapata Forest, Alipurduar. I stayed there at a home-stay near Kodal Basti. In the morning when I went into the jungle and found a high whistling sound calling from high in the trees. Later I found this bird was calling and I was able to capture a few shots only.
